Academic Background

        Professor Dr. Dominik Pietzcker studied philosophy, history, and German literature at University of Freiburg, Trinity College Dublin and in Vienna. He gained his Dr Phil “magna cum laude” from Albrecht-Ludwig-Universität Freiburg i. Br.

Professional Experience


       From 1996 to 2010, he served as creative director in the communication industry, working for political institutions and major brands (European Union, Federal Press Office of the German Government (BPA), German Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Coca-Cola, Mercedes, Bayer).

        Since 2014, he is honorary juror for Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft (SDW).

        He gave lectures at University of Cambridge, Berlin University of Arts (UdK), and Dresden University of Technology (TU).

        From 2012 to 2025, he served as professor for media management and international relations at Macromedia University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg.

        Since 2017 he has been regularly lecturing at Chinese universities.

        In 2025, he was appointed Fudan Scholar.

        Since March 2026, he is distinguished professor at Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Academy of Global Governance and Area Studies (SAGGAS).

        Dr Dominik Pietzcker published extensively on cultural and geopolitical topics in scientific journals and newspapers.

Research Interests

        His research focus includes sociocultural studies on Germany, Western Europe and its media system (European Area Studies), studies in comparative literature and history of ideas.
